Twin Otter Carrying 22 Missing In Nepal (UPDATED) - AVweb

The search for a Tara Air Twin Otter missing in Nepal was suspended on Sunday due to bad weather. There were 22 people on the small twin when it disappeared on a 20-minute flight from Pohkara to Jomsom. The aircraft was about five minutes out from its destination when radar contact was lost. Government officials have already said they believed the crash to be weather-related.

I lived in Nepal for a few years and rode on this route once in the opposite direction. Pokhara is around 1500 ft, and Jomsom is a 2400 ft strip at 9000 between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri, two 8000m+ mountains. This route must be flown VFR up the gorge between the mountains, flying through passes not far AGL (the planes are unpressurized of course). It is a dangerous flight, and if any weather comes in there aren’t many options.
