Regional jet almost landed on top of a 737.
She is right, they do. But why? What do Odin, Icarus or the other parties have to say about this?
Russ,
“Scheinbaum didn’t seem to concerned”
I think you probably mean “too concerned” and yes, she seems not too…
Thanks, as always, Richard. I’ll fix it.
Maybe President Scheinbaum doesn’t feel the urge/ need to comment on absolutely everything.
Looks like a displaced threshold on the runway? That fact could have prevented a collision? Or been the reason that the Aero Mexico aircraft did not see the Delta in position…
Holy Moly! Landed over the top of the 737? Was the regional jet blind? Thought it was normal to land in front of another plane? This seems like one of those times the crew of the Delta flight should be calling ATC and saying, “Advise when ready to copy a phone number.”
The DL crew likely had no idea the 190 was cleared to land unless one of the pilots speaks Spanish. Spanish and English being spoken on the same freq could be a contributing factor.
Aviation is supposed to use English, universally.
How much locals obey is question, but English is common in Mexican society especially doing business (manufacturing and tourism), I’d be surprised if offending crew does not speak it adequately.
POM cleverly gave POTUS ammunition against Mexico.
Low wing but Delta airplane visible earlier in approach?
(Another ‘wrong parallel runway’ case.)
When are they going to wake up and activate ADS-B IN? The real controller is in the cockpit, not the tower. ADS-B IN can give accurate and low-false-alarm warnings up to 2 minutes and 40 NM. How many controller jobs are worth the life of one passenger?
Donny will fix THIS tomorrow before mid morning nap.
It’s been a while since I landed there, but I don’t recall a straight in .. but I do recall that the speed & altitude gates are quite challenging due to density altitude & terrain. That could result in focussing solely on landing point. Training?
The incorrect parallel approach possibility is very real, but in my experience it was land outboard, depart inboard… so…?!
What I want to know is why it took Delta three hours to continue the flight? Did the laundry take that long?
But DID comment, minimizing the close call. Not exactly part of safety culture, but also from a politician and too few of those are really familiar with the healthier attitudes to close calls.
Should have at least said near-mishap will be thoroughly investigated.
I’d have demanded ATC tell me when it is safe to depart.
This seems more like an ‘incident’… NOT a mishap…
Regardless too scanty info to draw many conclusions.
Odd that the ground-track of the Embraer was NOT aligned with R-RW centerline… drifting right-to-left to on final…toward RW CL… then straightened to align W/ R-RW CL at the last minute.
Assuming good visibility, the Embraer pilot would have poor view of the end of the RW… but the co-pilot would have had a better chance to see the Delta ready for take-off.
Thats exactly my point. Its unfortunate that its now apparently the norm to ask sitting presidents or incoherently babbling wanna be politicians for their opinion on the latest aviation mishap. And they are seemingly collectively unable to STFU.
I am waiting for one of our moronic clowns to come out with a roaring statement about the military helicopter which crashed in Germany today.
Nobody gives a flying shyster about what some clowning politician thinks may have happened.
