Piper To Manufacture Medical Face Shields - AVweb

Piper Aircraft announced on Thursday that it will begin making protective gear to support the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach, Florida, during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. According to Vero Beach-based Piper, its manufacturing engineering team designed a prototype face shield using off-the-shelf materials. Once the prototype was approved, the team created a manufacturing line at the Piper factory and sourced materials from wholesale suppliers.

You’ve got to love it–a company recognizes a need, and rather than wait for “government approval” of a product that is needed STAT–goes right out and starts production on its own. They didn’t wait for an OK by countless government agencies–they started producing thousands of units DAILY.

My compliments to Piper–it’s an initiative that hasn’t been seen for almost 80 years!

Ditto Jim H. This initiative is to be praised. Thanks Piper.

Well done, Piper. We’re seeing similar effort all over the place though it does not seem to rate more than a blip in the mainstream media.
