Pilots Miffed By Signal Leak

Military pilots are worried their political masters don't have their best interests at heart in light of the revelation that top U.S. officials were group chatting about timing and weapons load before a raid on Yemen earlier this month. The revelation that Atlantic Magazine Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg had been included on the Signal group electrified the Washington political establishment for much of the week but the young men and women who carry out their wishes were "angered and bewildered" by the peril they say the leak put them in. “We intentionally don’t share plans with people who don’t need to know,” a Navy F/A-18 pilot, who has flown frequently in missions in the Middle East told the New York Times. “You don’t share what time we’re supposed to show up over a target. You don’t want to telegraph that we’re about to show up on someone’s doorstep; that’s putting your crew at risk.” The Times said it spoke with several active duty pilots and granted them anonymity.

Our Military Soldiers have every reason to be worried. Look how bad the sudden Afghanistan departure was because of loose lips.

Maybe the Atlantic Magazine Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg should be a good citizen and STFU about about timing and weapons load? That would seem reasonable if he supported the USA and it’s troops after this accident.

You’re completely missing the point. What if it had been someone who could have relayed that information to the intended target? There’s a reason there are official communication tools in place for these types of messages.

No. if this was secret information then you speak up that you’re on the line, and that it must have been a mistake, and then DISCONNECT the call. What you don’t do is listen in and then broadcast the information. That is treason.

If one was communicating privileged information over a channel that non-intended targets can receive, that is the person who should (and normally would be) prosecuted. And that is what these pilots are “miffed” about - if they had been as careless with their communications, they would be facing a general court martial and likely be dishonorably discharged at a minimum.

If Biden and his team had added some random Newsmax reporter, you’d be calling for his impeachment. Shirts vs skins is a really dumb way to run politics. You should expect more from your team rather than constantly excusing idiocy.

Lt. John Gadzinski nailed the continuing, core problem that these proud pilots will continue to face for the forseeable future: a political personality cult of fearful sheeple lifted into positions of power without merit who fight to protect their psychologically fragile egos at all costs to serve not the pilots - but only one man/child they adore and would follow forever, anywhere, anyhow, Their Great Leader.

And just to prove this paradigm, they blamed the well-regarded reporter Jeffrey Goldberg for the mess they created. Madness without conscience, a short skirt for the gang-rape.
I’m increasingly fearful for our country, these fine military pilots, and all who serve. It feels to me war and warfare is brewing underground, just waiting for its time.

Amen! Don’t know what you did to get the Red Flag w/scull&crossed, but I assume you gave truthful comment.

It was flagged for a watched word that I’m going to delete. Nothing wrong with the post and it’s been restored.

Just to be clear, Art. He initially left out anything about the actual operation. It wasn’t until most of the main players said there was nothing classified about the posts that he released them publicly.

Take careful note of those who are excusing this or deflecting or using whataboutism: these people are not to be trusted. (Looking at that Foyt weirdo, who seems to have unlimited time as a retiree or someone with an obsession to spread their moronic takes on just about every AvWeb article.)

And he did leave the chat long before it ended because he thought it couldn’t possibly be genuine. When bombs started falling right on time, he realized what had happened. FWIW, I would have sent the screen grabs to the White House for comment before I published anything but nothing he did was unethical and it certainly wasn’t traitorous.

Just wanted to get the facts there and defend the journalism, which is my personal bias:)

We’re all swimming in a sea of disinformation these days, but anyone trying to hand-wave this one away is not to be trusted in my book. Don’t spend too much energy trying to defend yourself from the bad faith actors like Foyt, who appears to have unlimited time to spread his bad takes on every one of these articles.

Quite apart from not looking at the guest list, these so-called “tech bros” hires were so dumb they used a free messaging system you can download at any time to discuss airforce operations. And if you go to Signal’s page they are pleading for donations – hardly the most secure environment. Presumably the defence department’s messaging system had been Doged… Or the participants failed the security to get on it.

Well whether it was intentional or not there needs to be an investigation and the person or persons responsible need to be exposed to the public since this is all public at this point. Even if that includes the CIA; with no redactions and specifically who ordered it. If the fact leads to an intentionally orchestrated act. Heads must roll. Personally it appears to me to be palace intrigue. Kinda like what happened to Gen. Flynn.
