The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) reported today that the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA), which controls Orlando International Airport and Orlando Executive Airport, has delayed a proposal to impose automated ADS-B-monitored landing fees. The AOPA credits a flurry of input from local pilots just two days before the January 15 vote for the decision to reconsider the proposal.
AOPA and Stacey were very effective in educating pilots and the Greater Orlando Airport Authority (GOAA) on this issue. To their credit GOAA is pausing to rethink and restructure the issue. GOAA made a strong case for their need of more funding. And the GA community made a stronger case for reshaping the fees to not impact nonprofits, flight training and Part 91 operators. Will Government listen to the people they serve? Time will tell but the delay is a good sign.
