Merlin Achieves TSO for key Autonomous Flight Component

Boston-based Merlin, a developer of autonomous flight technology for fixed-wing aircraft, received FAATechnical Standard Order (TSO) approval today (March 19) for its Remote Data Concentrator. Approval for the RDC, developed in collaboration with Shadin Avionics, “supports Merlin’s ability to create certified advanced automation for an aircraft platform,” Merlin said, adding the approval represents a significant milestone in an ongoing flight test program for its certification-ready autonomy platform.

I assume that they will start relaxing security at local GA airports, now that there are remote piloted aircraft with large payloads being let loose into the airspace?

All of this effort to get rid of pilots. I guess I just don’t understand it.
No reason to have ACT either, or, baggage handlers, or, taxi’s, or, behind the counter people, or, Uber…

Arthur and MrMilkshake, it’s been pretty quiet without you two–I’ve missed you! With warm respect, I see you’re both still on top of your game. Apparently, Merlin’s RDC approval is the signal for every airport to toss security out the window and let aircraft wander the skies like stray dogs. And MrMilkshake, your vision of a world without pilots, ATC, or baggage handlers? Bold move–maybe we can just hand out slingshots at the gate and let passengers sort things out. Always a pleasure hearing your takes!

Raf, always with the hyperbole. Start relaxing security at local GA airports to you means “Every Airport” and “tossing security out the window”? With warm pleasure I must say, lighten up Francis.

I actually agree with both of you… it’s a slippery slope. First, they get this RDC approved, and next thing you know, we’ll be watching a 737 taxi itself up to the gate with no crew, just a robot arm tossing bags onto the belt. Honestly, I’m half-expecting vending machines to start announcing boarding groups. Wild times ahead!

Thank you Dave, :joy: I needed that. Kinda slow here in New Mexico .
