The redesigned hybrid-electric regional aircraft adds six seats and moves to a two-nacelle propulsion system.
A ‘work in progress’?
Well, the Jetstar business jet changed from two to four engines, I don’t know why. Succeeded with quite a few sold thanks to US military and other government agencies. With Lockheed company behind it.
(JSX is a silly marketing name, it will be confused with other airplanes.
But at least they flew something, which looks like an early (short) model of the dash8 airliner - is much better about Heart’s airplane than it?)
(And the Avro Jetliner regional jet airliner had four engines because suitable engine design for two wasn’t available.
It flew and was demonstrated to airlines but government of Canada stopped the program to concentrate funds and people on the Avro Arrow interceptor.)
Finally an electric airplane that actually makes sense. It looks like any other commercial airplane which means most passengers won’t think twice about getting on it.
The hybrid power plant means it can fly multiple legs to virtually any airport without needing any new infrastructure. Most importantly it won’t need extended periods on the ground to recharge.
It’s also a size that will carry a more reasonable amount of people or cargo for a commercial operation.
I look forward to seeing the ES-36 in service!
