Flight Rules Change For Pregnant Military Pilots

Pregnant military pilots have had their wings clipped but also received an extension in their flying window under new rules announced by the Pentagon. The military says flying will be banned during the first trimester, when the chance of miscarriage is greatest but after the first 13 weeks they can actually keep flying for longer, up to the 32nd week instead of 28 weeks. Flying anything with an ejection seat is banned for the full term of the pregnancy.

I was faced with that delimia (early 90’s) when we had one of our first three female NFO’s continue to fly while PG. We were flying an ejection seat airplane and I was furious to say the least! Had something happened while in flight I shudder to think what the ramifications could have been. She knew the rules she chose to ignore them.

Admiral Chester ‘Hammer’ Cain was right.

// if you haven’t seen it at U-Hazy…upright bird from Mt Baker shot is there in Q2 colors.

The continued out right lunacy is dumbfounding. To even consider the question is beyond rational comprehension.

Like PIC is the final authority, the pregnant person is the final authority…

Unless you think commanders have the knowledge and interest to make a better decision, which seems laughable.
