25 years ATC here. Well said!
The human factor issue:
The FAA has been underfunded, undermanned, and deep in technological debt for decades now.
They have been working overtime and patching ancient gear together to keep everything going in ways way above and beyond their job descriptions behind the scenes. Recent events making sure that every employee of the government feels like they are a problem to be gotten rid of by any means necessary is not liable to keep them doing this like before. “The beatings will continue until morale improves” has never been a winning strategy.
Even if that issue doesn’t exist, the needed work spans multiple administrations and changes in leadership. Cutting a large expense that isn’t producing results that day has always been an easy target for all politicians.
Oh Larry. You know we can’t INCLUDE those transponders anymore. It wouldn’t be EQUITABLE to even mention them, so I’d DOGE any reference to them, if I were you.
Let’s not forget the little guy in the ATC overhaul. I suspect there will be another attempt to pay for the new system by charging for access, as has been discussed in the past. Safety of flight is NOT served by discouraging participation.
