In a press conference today (March 5), Dassault Aviation chairman and CEO Eric Trappier described impending U.S. tariffs on the European Union (EU) as a “most concerning” geopolitical development. President Donald Trump has said he intends to impose 25% tariffs on EU imports, which would include French-made Falcon business jets.
We’ve always known he would blink and to whom he would capitulate in this game of tariff winners and losers. And we’ve always known what the winners and losers would/will look like in this scenario. Today he blinked and capitulated to the first of the winners who predictably looked like and are Goliath: the big three US auto manufacturers. Tomorrow, the next day and next he will blink and capitulate some more, and more Goliaths will emerge as winners. As little guys look into their morning bathroom mirrors in the ensuing days we will learn to know what the losers look like and who they are.
