With the annual Sun ‘n Fun Aerospace Expo postponed until May, companies including Sporty’s, Garmin and Gold Seal have announced they will be holding online events for pilots and aviation enthusiasts this week. Sporty’s is hosting a virtual fly-in featuring an aerobatic ride-along with airshow pilot Patty Wagstaff via YouTube, free access to the company’s Pilot’s Guide to Airspace video course and a live “Flying with the iPad” webinar on Thursday, April 2, at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. As part of the event, Sporty’s has added several new videos to its YouTube channel and is offering “show special” discounts on some of its products and courses.
I notice the Colt guy locked the top latch on his door, but Paul didn’t. Somewhere around 7:45 in the video, you can see air at the top rear of Paul’s door. Later during landing, I noticed it is also latched. Probably automatic. LOL. Not much payload with full fuel. I don’t know why the FAA doesn’t go ahead and raise the gross weight on the LSA category? I guess all the bureaucrats up there in FAA headquarters have to justify their existence for a while before they’ll do it. What a crock.
The Texas Colt LSA looks like a great airplane. I especially like the all metal design and steel tube cockpit. But I do have a question: With a 290 lb. useful load, how can two average males (one CFI and one student), fly the plane and stay within the 1320 gross weight?
As aviators, and as a nation, we have much to be worried about with the advance of the Corona Virus and Covid-19 across America. Beyond saluting the heroic efforts of our medical care providers, positive news is hard to find. But this just in: on Monday I was quoted $2.02 per gallon for 100LL delivered to my fueling facility. It may be awhile before FBOs recognize the drastically lowered wholesale fuel cost and reduce retail prices, but it will happen.
