The airport is offering unleaded avgas ahead of Colorado’s 2030 phaseout timeline.
In Europe, a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) is typically not required to use UL91 Under European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) rules, you can use UL91 in your aircraft—even if the airframe’s Type Certificate originally required a higher octane fuel like 100LL
In the USA this is not the case. The FAA years ago promised a fleet approval for ASTM approved UL 91 Fuel, this would make US avgas regulations similar to European regulations, but they have not followed through, and instead added a leaded fuel mandate instead, which is actually holding the unleaded Fuel transition up.
The Peterson auto fuel STC I purchased last year when I bought my plane also covers use of UL91 and UL94, along with 87 octane auto fuel for my older C172 with an O-300 engine.
Subsidized two ways.
The UL94 which mirrors the Hjelmco 91/96UL® unleaded AVGAS was introduced nationwide in Sweden year 1991. Since then it has not been necessary with any STC or other approval when put into the airframe. Why is the US 35 years behind Europe???
and is the Boulder news really a piece of news???
No GAMI, eh? Methinks there is a plan afoot to sink the competition.
