Beta Technologies Flies First Production Alia CTOL

Vermont-based Beta Technologies has announced the completion and initial test flight of its first production Alia conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) aircraft last week. It’s the first all-electric aircraft built on Beta’s new-build production line in South Burlington, Vermont. The company also plans a vertical takeoff (VTOL) version of the Alia.

Ok great first flight. But what is so special about it?

This is the first certified production electric aircraft in the US, possibly the world if I’m not mistaken.
This isn’t a prototype, this is off their assembly line & has an AW cert like any Cessna or Piper. Pretty cool IMO

It looks like a pregnant guppy…

The picture is not a very good one to grasp the design. And absence that, I’m not sure I grasp the intent. Is that guppy design to carry the big heavy batteries for the big single engine? It gives the appearance that it must need considerable speed to get off a runway…or to fly. But I’m just WAGiing here. Would like to see a several pictures or a video. A C150 with an O200 will do that, although not electric. Just puzzled, that’s all.
