ATP Flight School has cut the timeline for its Airline Career Pilot Program by 25 percent.
It is a big ask to think that you are supplying a suitably qualified crew member for the airlines and that the airlines will agree with you. The shortest course does not even cover the four seasons. Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring. Fog and low cloud base on a recurring basis, and likewise for a spate of high winds and crosswinds. Give me break!
Will these folk be qualified to assist the Captain when the situation turns to custard. The non-normal checklist is in use and an associated weather condition situation requires a missed approach in New England after spending 6 months in the balmy climes of Arizona?

This ought to be real interesting.
What will follow will prove the folly in this program.
The article says “Graduates then build flight time as instructors” so these pilots who barely have experience are the next gen of instructors. Sounds like a bad recipe. But look under the covers, do they actually hire every CFI graduate? If the average CFI has 2 students, then they have to sign up 2 new students for every graduate. That does not seem reasonable. They must have some quality control so you get some who make CFI and have no job. Student pilots and wannabe pilots need an advocate! They all need to be Savvy Students!
