At this week’s Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) International Convention & Trade Show, the trade group announced its new Certified Aircraft Electronics Technician (CAET) certification. As developed by AEA, the title becomes the primary certification for technicians.
This is overdue and very welcome. This will fill a very big hole in the industry, and provide aircraft owners better availably to qualified electronics technicians. Not to mention, it will provide opportunities for aspiring technicians.
Interesting. Is there any other aviation-related certificate that is issued by a third party without FAR control? Seems like this certificate should be issued as a new category under 14CFR §65.73. As a former avionics instructor I’m curious about the curriculum the AEA considers necessary to obtain the certificate and what levels there are beyond basic.
