Decades ago a FSDO Inspector threatened during a phone call to “take my ATP”
Several years later I had discussions with a FAA region attorney regarding that FSDO office. I told the attorney about the threat. The attorney said “they can’t do that” My response was I know but they did. That office was eventually cleaned out to the bare walls. After some false starts the manager was indicted on charges that including telling a 135 operator to keep two sets of maintenance records. The manager caved and agreed to a plea deal that did not include jail time. The 135 operator did some jail time. The owner of another 135 operator was a Captain for a major airline. His pilots were doing single engine charters in low IMC conditions.
It is my belief that because of internal FAA rules it is inappropriate for anyone outside of the the FAA or law enforcement to threaten a pilot.
I am very supportive of Trump Administration but the President is completely out of line on this.
Subjectively, it is rather risky to publicly disagree with Trump/ Musk and current agenda in the presence of very strong Trump supporters and traditionally sternly conservative hobby- aviators.
Comments will get reported, nasty emails will be sent and pitchforks will be swung. It is clear as day, that Trump and Musk can do no wrong and they both enjoy a very outspoken and aggressively offensive group of followers.
I accidentally tuned into C-Span yesterday, during the NATO visit at the White House and heard repeatedly that Trump “invaded” and “broke in” to Los Angeles.
After several highly repetitive of incoherent ramblings about water and fires and Dems who refused these poor people the water and how there is now water everywhere and how they are basically all drowning in all the water the chosen one graciously provided them- and how beautiful and incredible that water is in these halfpipes… later - the browser window closed.
While the dream-teams actions do not affect me flying-wise or professionally, any American residing abroad is likely feeling quite sad about the state of affairs and quite tired about being asked what kind of **** is going down. At least those US citizens I have in my circle of Expats (by far not left-radical progressives) nobody really has much hope.
GA and BA are both destined for some extremely sobering and turbulent times ahead. For GA I definitely see more potentially deadly damage ahead. Shortsighted politics + highly aggressive progressives + lead free fuel issues + increasing sensitivity with noise… looks like a perfect storm ahead.
Damage will be irreparable. Both from a “community” aspect as from regulatory/ cost induced fallout.
No doubt the anonymity of the Web encourages people to write things there that they would never say to anyone face to face. It cannot hurt to be civil, but some people get emotional satisfaction from posting vicious comments.
Aviation is a unique field. You should not have anyone administering protocols in aviation who has not been deeply involved in the operational side of it for a long time. People making decisions who do not fit that model are a significant threat to the system.
