President Donald Trump says certificate revocation should be considered for the pilot of a Flexjet Challenger 350 involved in an apparent runway incursion at Midway Airport 10 days ago. During a media scrum aboard Air Force One late Sunday, Trump also praised the crew of a Southwest flight who aborted their landing to hop over the encroaching business jet. Trump said the Southwest crew "did a fantastic job" by aborting the landing just before it touched down and climbing to safety. The Flexjet pilot, not so much. "I think the license for the pilot that got in his way should maybe be revoked," he said. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said last week that pilots who ignore ATC instructions should have their certificates "pulled" and that prompted the head of the Air Line Pilots Association Jason Ambrosi to bring the topic up with the secretary. Video of the scrum is below and the aviation discussion starts at 5:38.
" I think the license should be maybe revoked for the plane that got away from the pilot revoked for the plane and got in his way"
âweâre gonna take in hundreds of billions of dollars with tariffs and weâre going to become so rich youâre not going to know where to spend all that money Iâm telling you, just watchâ
âwe want to get Ukraine to be serious about getting something done -
" they will sign the mineral deal but I want them to want peace - right now they havenât shown itâ
âReally, what we want now, is not laws against crime, but a law against insanity. That is where the true evil lies.â M. Twain
All this talk about revoking pilot certificates⌠If you listen to the tape the controller gave conflicting non-standard terminology. âWhat is good for the goose is good for the gander.â If the Government really wants to start pushing for pilotâs loosing their jobs, there needs to be a controller or FAA Boeing inspector that looses one too. Oh, wait I guess that does not sound so appealing after all!
So the âlicenseâ of the Flexjet Dude should maybe be pulled and weâll promote the incredible Southwest Dude to help Duffy to fix the system.
Everyone will be doing an incredible job. Southwest Dude has been doing a great job. Really incredible! Be like Southwest Dude and make the American Airspace Great AgainâŚ
Before we know it, weâll all get tired of all the winning.
I am slowly beginning to think, Russ is trolling the readers of AVweb with these pictures and lead-ins.
Be careful. Donât speak out too loudly with any criticisms of the king and his administration. They are already laying the groundwork to deal with dissidents.
â On Saturday, agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested Khalil. Khalilâs lawyer said that ICE agents claimed they were acting on the orders of the State Department to revoke Khalilâs student visa, apparently unaware that Khalil, who graduated from Columbiaâs School of International and Public Affairs in December 2024, is a lawful permanent resident of the United States. When his wife showed officers documents proving that status, the lawyer said, an officer said they were revoking his green card instead. He is apparently being held in Louisiana.â
Quoted from heather cox Richardson
But itâs all over the news and even Fox News said itâs illegal. But if the government is allowed to do it to Khalil, whoâs next
Maybe theyâre honeypot articles to trap the trolls while the rest of us argue over more interesting topics like what constitutes an autopilot axis (no, really, those are more interesting discussions to me)
I guess due process and proportionality of penalty do matter, after all. Everything old is new again, at least when itâs oneâs own neck on the block.
When the administration was going after those nasty universities and liberal lawyers, who cared? But go after the rights of pilots, now thatâs a completely different thing.
I always figured if I made a mistake like that then it was a given that my certificate would be revoked. I may even voluntarily surrender it at that point. Weâre supposed to be professionals and thereâs some things that have to be perfect, or perfect within a set of parameters, every time. Not everything deserves a second chance.
Before you jump to a solution, take a look at Dan Gryderâs Probable Cause video on the subject. Itâs pretty definite as to what happened and very interesting for all pilots.
I liked it better during the days people could have a discussion face to face. Keyboard warrior syndrome is translating across many sectors of society, and not positively.
It doesnât work like that. Once the âdeath penaltyâ is the punishment for everything, everyone covers everything up they can and nothing is ever learned until people die and then it is too late.
I have had controllers clear me to land on top of departing airplanes and clear me to take off in front of airplanes on short final. I guess they all should have been fired too? If it is good for us, it is good for them as well.
