I suggest that you check out what the Reason Foundation is all about and read the bio. of the author of the letter (Robert Poole). I didn’t see where he is/or was a pilot or had personal experience in our aviation system (not just ATC, but all of aviation).
To become an airline pilot one has to earn an Instrument rating. The cost of learning to fly is already going out of sight and having to pay additional fees, like some other countries do, is only going to push the USA backwards if our percentage of pilots, instrument pilots, and ATC pilots compared to our population is reduced compared to other nations. Having a good percentage of pilots in the USA (3/4 million pilots to 353 million population) is an advantage that no other country has and other countries know this and see it as a real strength than no other country has. We have our own GA & Bisjet air force in addition to our military.
DOGE needs to do their job without screwing up the USA. Yes the USA needs to become much more cost effective, but at the same time much more efficient. Let’s not screw it up. Fixing the USA (including ATC) can be done by some group like the DOGE, but it’ll be an unprecedented achievement if accomplished in any positive degree.
