Short Final: Who's There?

Recently, my private pilot student and I were returning to Aurora State Airport (KUAO) in Oregon, from a lesson. At the 10-nm mark, he properly contacted the tower with "KUAO Tower, [N-tail number], 10 miles northwest, with Mathew." Tower responded, "[N-tail number], I'm sure Mathew is very nice, but information Mike is current." To steal a phrase from years past, "Students say the darndest things."

Pleased to meet you, Matt.

Or… I wonder who’s Mike?:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I always call in with Whisky as having the “Booze News.” In 50+ years no tower has corrected me yet.

Back almost fifty years ago, I was with a student holding short of the active runway at a ‘smallish’ airport. Our number was 9885U. He called tower and stated “Grumman niner eighter eighter five uniform is ready”. I laughed and the student looked puzzled. I knew the guys in the tower well. They were trying SO hard to contain themselves.
