The issue is not so much that Qatar is gifting a 747, but that they’re gifting it to Trump as his personal property. If the US accepts the gift, it should be retained to support future presidents…not placed in Trump’s library.
…they’re gifting it to Trump as his personal property.
??? The jet is slated to go to the USAF and then to the Trump Library. Give his lawyers some credit; the deal would never fly if Trump was ever to be the owner.

So the Air Force is going to spend tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars to convert the aircraft to Air Force One standards, and in less than four years, they’re required to give it up? In what universe is this cost-effective? Where’s DOGE?
If you win a car on “The Price Is Right,” and a year later the producers show up and take the keys back…well, you never really owned the car, did you?
Not against the donation of the plane itself, but there should be no preconceived notions of putting the plane out to pasture in four years. It’s a magnificent aircraft, and should go on to serve presidents for the next twenty years or more.
When it has been in the works for most of a decade already and now they say ANOTHER 10 YEARS to complete, yea, I can criticize the timeline and the expense.
…well, you never really owned the car, did you?
Did they sign over the title? If not, then no, it isn’t my ‘personal property’.
Did they sign over the title? If not, then no, it isn’t my ‘personal property’.
They’re not signing over the title to the 747, at least nof fully. There’s apparently a “lien” on the aircraft that requires it be decommissioned in less than four years. The title is obviously not being signed over, fully, to the US Government. SOMEone is requiring it be placed in Trump’s library after he leaves office. Who? Why did this even come up?
And, again, a crap-ton of money is going to have to get spent to configure this plane for its task. How long will that take? Adding in-flight refueling capability, etc. A year? Two years? Will the taxpayer see only a year’s service before the plane gets put out to pasture?
Again, someone tell me how this is cost-effective.
Actually, there’s a good solution, here. Don’t add the required Air Force One equipment. Don’t add the ability to refuel for more range, ECM gear, or protection from MANPADs. Use the plane to transport reporters from CNN, NPR, MSNBC, etc. Trump won’t care if THEY’RE not protected…
Trump won’t care if THEY’RE not protected…
. . . especially if they’re positioned to absorb ground fire.
The media and Democratic Party hysteria has excited opinions, many expressed here. The fact is that Qatar 747 is of parts value ---- or as an executive aircraft since it is completed as an executive aircraft now. There is no airline market for a 747 now and even if there was the cost of converting this one to passenger service would be impossible. If Qatar doesn’t want it then it would be sold to a parts distributor or given to a head of state.
We don’t know the status of C checks and D check, both very costly. While this might appear to be a freebie, it might be more costly than we know.
A sing comes to mind: You’re so Vain’ by Carley Simon.
Or ‘When I win a trillion dollars’

Looks like the reason for the trade war with China is that they did not yet paid sufficiently to the “Esteemed Leader”. This is why the current administration is currently owned by the Arab world rather than by China. Europe and Canada also refused to pay, so they too are the s** t list.
you mean a goodwill bribe to buy influence?
Is it possible that someone “negotiated” Boeing to the point that they decided to put it on the back burner on very very low heat, while surviving until the someone goes away?
Conspiracy theories don’t keep aviation safe.
There are logical and emotional reasons for his behaviour, including fixed-pie mentality like Marxists.
There is also a difference between reasonable assumptions and conspiracy theories.
We have all seen how he gets - or extort - bribes from countries, companies, law firms, etc. When some one shows basic corruption, and a threatening attitude towards others that do not submit, it is reasonable to assume that he is trying to extort the others as well.
That is not Marxist, but realist.
No question that China should be restrained. Their behavior is just as problematic. But there are right ways and wrong ways for doing things.
I am really sad to see how the shining city of the hill is fast becoming the equivalent of the lowest favela of Rio de Janeiro. I really liked the shining city.
My point was that Donald Trump is behaving like a Marxist - fixed pie economics, exploitation ethics.
You should make posts that are clear and on target, yours was a conspiracy theory IMJ.
It’s a swamp c/w alligators and snakes.
A slum in Brazil is people disadvantaged by government, including by the prohibitions that Hernando de Soto illuminates in his book ‘The Other Path’.
Don’t let all the discoursing distract you from the fact that 55 years ago today, Al Bundy scored 4 touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High Panthers in the city championship game.
God almighty people. Trump will do what he wants, or not and then its going to be interesting!
