Group Wants 'Airman' Replaced By Gender Neutral Terms In FAA Documents - AVweb

Good comment. When men wanted to work serving and helping passengers on flights the term Stewardess was fairly quickly changed to Flight Attendant. It took a while for that to become second nature and now if you call a Flight Attendant a Stewardess well it isn’t necessarily a well received thing. So, Im a Mom of an Airman - a female Airman. She isn’t concerned about the title like a Congresswoman may sign her name and her signature block says Congressman. The idea to use the term “Aviator” is a nice fair term but I think possibly for the Air Force, there is a tradition there that they like to separate a bit maybe from the Navy or what have you. Who knows, I mostly care that when all the Aviators and Airmen / Airman, take off that they then also safely LAND. God Bless them All.
