Not that “how poorly the news media is handling the story” isn’t self-evident every night, last night one of our news stations featured a report from a NJ station, complete with compelling video of one such “drone” threatening the skies. The clip ended on the frame where the drone’s strobe flashed, illuminating the craft as the bubble-headed-bleached-blond triumphally described the threat.
Smart people comment because they have something to say. Stupid people comment because they think they have to. I’d like to see you propose something resembling a solution, and present it to someone who can use it…for a change.
The big problem I see is someone violating the airspace restrictions either won’t see this info, won’t respect it, or won’t be caught. The partial solution can be for authorities to crunch down on media that incorrectly misrepresents the problem. Case in point is outlets showing footage of legally operated aircraft, which supports the hysteria, as demonstrated in jbmcmanee’s and Aviatrexx’s examples.
Boy, that’s some useful commentary! Feel better now? Smart people comment because they have something to say. Stupid people comment because they think they have to.
“A drone spotted near a military base”. Near or over? What type of airspace? Makes a big difference.
“Drones spotted over sensitive areas”. What’s a “sensitive area” and how is that depicted on a sectional? What’s the airspace look like over this “sensitive area”.
“Drones the size of a SUV” When the reporter had this drone land next to a SUV for size comparison, did they get the registration or talk to the pilot?
Headlines now read “Drones banned over NY” which is not the case, and the public now believes any drone over NY is illegal.
I’ve counted 3 reports in the last two months that describes a possible violation. The arrest in Boston (and even that arrest was for trespassing) The arrest in Vandenberg on 03 Nov, and the guy who told on himself and said he flew into a TFR and his battery died.
