Accessing what are now distant memories from the comfort of my retirement armchair, if those distant memories serve me correctly, shifting the runway 80 west makes the sloping terrain 2400 feet from the runway into which the Avjet GIII crashed in March of 2001 even more of a CFIT risk. On the face of it 80 feet is admittedly not a big deal, but the scale of everything mountainous around ASE, even a mere 80 feet always seemed to me to be magnified.
