The Vulcan was a quite large machine and impressive to be around. Probably the only issue it had was range. Read the story about the Port Stanley raid during the short Falklands war some time. It is labeled as the longest successful bombing raid in history. Lot of effort put into getting one bomber over target.
Interesting to note that the B-52, same vintage era and technology can fly just short of the same distance unrefueled.
