Good article. But, my opinion, much of what was said is now overkill (bad word I guess). We used to fly blindly off into space making the trip decisions on these excellent and very thorough FSS weather briefings. But after we took off, we just hoped it was all correct. Now we carry so much real time, right now, immediate weather, radar, notam, tfr, etc information, we can make much more informed decisions as we see things developing. Technology is just a fact of life. And…I basically don’t lead my life making decisions just to CYA…usually… But good article.

Great article! Personally, I always call. Even if the weather is better than I want, I still call. Maybe I’m too lazy to do it myself, but I am not a weather expert nor do I want to be. I’d rather spend the time learning other things related to aviation. Weather is a huge aspect of flying so yeah, I log in to Leidos, look for TFRs (I’m in south florida and lately, its the norm) and any other big potentials, but I want to hear of any late NOTAMS, Pireps, and any gotchas that would scrub a VFR flight. I gotta drive to the airport, and I make use of the drive by calling and so it doesnt take any time from me. Also, I’ve learned a few things in life [1] want good legal advice? Get it from an attorney and not by reading an article on attorney.com.
Also, if we all stop calling, they will reduce the number of briefers. And like all other services in the U.S. we are getting cheaper and cheaper till the internet replaces more bodies… Not to my liking, personally.

There are two things to correct in this article. First, “No certified weather sources exist other than 1800WxBrief.com”. Totally untrue. Aviationweather.gov is a certified source, and Foreflight pulls entirely from this site. Secondly, the issue of there being a record. As most of us realize, there is a faithful if often unwanted record of our internet activity. You can’t go anywhere online without there being a time stamp and other metadata kept available. If you brief via Foreflight or any other such app, there is - of course - a detailed record of everything you do and see. You’re covered.

Beat me to it. The next gen view is no longer the default view.

Thankfully, it can still be accessed. For now.

Tablet users… Enable the desktop view to get that sweet sweet tabbed presentation of your brief.
