The June 6 Lancair narrative is stunning. The airplane collides with power lines and terrain in visual conditions killing both occupants, but not before 2.6 miles from the end of the runway where the pilot advises that the airplane has lost its autopilot capabilities. There are too many obvious questions to ask and have answered here but paramount among my curiosities is who and what kind of people are buying and flying these airplanes these days? Autopilot fails while on final approach so there is no alternative but to announce autopilot failure and then crash into power lines and terrain?
