Shades of QANTAS flight QF32.
These uncontained engine failures are potentially very serious, and in some cases (ie QF32, United 232, etc) have come close to downing aircraft entirely.

Well done the crew of the AN-124. Aircraft can be repaired or replaced.

What’s “That’ll buff right out” in Russian?

I wonder if this cut wiring or hydraulics to brake, TRs, or spoiler systems not unlike many of the failures of QF32?

The youtube video shows it had plenty of runway but just couldn’t stop:

Very nice driving on the pilot’s part. Glad it happened on The Sunny Day that is guaranteed annually at Novosibirsk

Runway is about 11,800 ft long, so lack of runway was not likely an issue. Seems pretty clear they had mechanical problems that prevented them from slowing down.

The pictures show a lot of damage in areas that could disable systems (fuselage, wing root, etc).

My initial assessment is that the crew did the best they could under the circumstances.

Interesting how that engine failure caused no thrust reversers & brakes!!!

Am I the only one to think it is absurd to use one of the biggest and thirstiest aircraft in the world to transport car parts? In the middle of a global pandemic! Absolutely crazy, especially as car makers, Koreans included are crying out for taxpayer’s money to stop them going bust. What is to stop them loading some of their own vans or lorries with parts and driving? Or making the parts at the factory making the car? And is it impossible to use a ship, preferably with sails like the one Renault will soon be using for St Pierre and Michelon? Thankfully no one was hurt – “how did you break your back daddy? Delivering car parts…”

Airplanes are immune the Chinavirus and fly the same with or without a pandemic.

Business and the economy and life all need to go on.

With 80 tons of car parts behind me, held in place by straps of unknown age/quality, not sure I would want to brake too hard either. Maybe reverse inop in assymetrical engine configuration? That was a “brown alert”. Hey, they walked away.
