“Told ya So”… Is there an echo in here?

Imagine that… a company whose product no one wants which is completely subsidized through (you) tax payer funding is going out of business with no hope of recovery given current economic realities. How did that happen?:man_shrugging:

Present fate may be is connected to the type of propulsion. Although a propeller man I respect ducted fans. They allow very elegant way of flight. But consume a lot. Lilium aircraft still may get popular either by adopting hybrid propulsion (kind of RRs turbogenerator) or by waiting for the (due!) arrival of the profound battery revolution.

How much were the top exec’s paid during this fiasco?

Moon, you echo my first thoughts. Seems to be prevalent in these. A new methodology and naming for an old thing we used to call money laundering.

Well, what can one say…this was predicted by many of us two years ago, and here we are. The German reporting on this is brutal, even from the left-leaning, state-owned ZDF: “Elektro-Flugzeugbauer Lilium vor Insolvenz”. They point out that it was the German Green party that cast the deciding vote against more state support of Lilium, despite the company’s wild predictions that these battery flivvers would “save the planet” - from what threat, they never really said. How about a Mea Culpa from the Editors of AVWeb? They were wrong, readers were right. I am not holding my breath for this…

The editors covered the news as it happened. How were they wrong?

And with readers on both sides, it is just as accurate to say that ‘readers were wrong’ as it is to say ‘readers were right.’

Well, they just lost a competitor.

Yea, it’s all our fault.
So many of us were nay sayers here that it caused the project to fail.
We just need to stay positive… LOL.

There you go. Silver lining.

Critics of eVTOLs were chastised and even censured by the editors during the height of the battery hype. They refused to consider any doubts their readers held about the technical issues or existence of the market. It is not sufficient in a real publication to simply pass on marketing hyperbole from an advertiser or slick press release. We are dealing with flight, which can be very unforgiving when things go wrong. Many AVWeb readers are highly experienced in the design, construction and operation of aircraft and their views should be respected, not vilified.

I don’t think we’ve ever said any of these companies would be successful but we have accurately reported their statements to that effect and run all the appropriate naysayer comments. Unless I’m missing something, no mea culpa is necessary, Kent.

Well said! Respecting opinions and not vilifying people are great points. All too often AvWeb comments veer wildly off topic, and contain nothing more than hyperbole and personal attacks.

I was one of them. I actually think it was humorous to be criticized by people who are NOT in the industry and are basically advocates with no experience. When I did state that I can qualify my statement with experience in the industry and having a pretty good idea of what makes a product successful I was poo booed as an old goat from the usual mix of ignorant youth. One time I gave a list of over 20\major projects that all went bust since 1985 and was again just poo pooed. this forum like most has a fantastic mix of highly experienced talented knowledgable people and this whose interest is more likened to aManchester United fan. IN any case it is entertaining somwhat informative (the articles are, the comments a mixed bag), but all in all a good bit of fun.

Well put. Millenials are largely ignorant and dismissive of anything that happened before they entered college. I have three of them as children and have observed this in them and their nincompoop friends. Thank you government schools and the MSM. What to do? Stand aside to make sure you are not harmed when these nutty ideas auger in. But do not expect any mea culpas or admission of fault, nor request of your learned opinions. There are two worlds out there and we live in Literalville.
