Doesn’t hurt to get some glider time - or even the rating. You quickly learn some useful decisionmaking skills that can transfer to airplanes. (Full disclosure: I’ve “landed out” without incident over two dozen times!) It sure didn’t hurt the three glider-rated ATPs who successfully “landed out” after engine failures!

Regarding the “fully autonomous drone operation approved”, how well does the DAA system “hear” a glider?

When I read this I had to took at the calendar. Surely it must be April 1. It had to be an April Fool’s gag. Sadly not. Am I the only one who this scares the crap out of? What keeps bad actors out?

What James H. said. The couple dozen gliders at our airport, all equipped with ADS-B or at least transponders, are still gonna be invisible to some idiot drone ‘listening’ for them!!

Ditto to James H. comment. How does this thing differentiate sounds? Propeller sound? Exhaust sound? Clicking valves? What about electric motors? And then there is the issue of the cacophony of sounds in a populated area. I dunno. But I’m prejudiced. I don’t like the prospect of tens, or hundreds, or thousands of things flying around me. All the time. Day or night. I think it’s time that novel inventions need to take the feelings of others into consideration.

It would only be a matter of time before someone will highjack the thing or things.

What about balloons, hot air and others? Quiet mostly.
Nerds with their drone toys don’t know what’s been going on up here for the past centuries.

There is a lot of high speed low level flying done in Nevada. I don’t believe they are harmonious with very fast stealthy aircraft. Just sayin’.
