Let me be the first to say that’s good.

“Girls, Girls, Girls” I can’t’ wait, right Kevin…

So the “crew” will ride the “fully autonomous” ship up and down? I don’t want to go to space, to kudos to them for being brave enough to do it. But how is it they aren’t just space tourists? And if that’s the case, then is this really a noteworthy event? “All female passengers go for joy ride in rocket powered bus” would be equally appropriate? I’m not mocking them, as I really don’t follow the space based stuff, but from my uninformed position, I feel like I missed something in this story that makes it news worthy.

That is cool, but let’s stop calling these “crewed missions”. There is no crew, and the “mission” is just a theme park ride. A theme park ride to (literally) top them all, and a very cool one at that, but still just an expensive theme park ride.

Will Miss Perry be wearing the Elmo T shirt? This should be live streamed.

This is definitely a DEI stunt.

Does this mean the next time I book a flight on Delta I’m “crew”?

You aren’t, but OK. Expected.
I thought you were all about competence, performance and reliability, or so you say.

In the day and age of all the bullshit surrounding "DEI"and "woke," I'm not surprised at this publicity stunt. If this is to be taken seriously, why does Bezos' girlfriend Lauren Sanchez ( a pilot but not a space ship pilot), Katie Perry, an entertainer, journalist Gayle King, and film producer Kerianne Flynn make up 2/3 of the "crew?"
If "fully autonomous" fails at ANY point, what then? What will this highly qualified "crew" be able to do about it?

Though no “crew” will be involved, today’s SpaceX flight should be much more interesting and entertaining.

‘According to Blue Origin, the mission marks the 11th human flight for New Shepherd sending passengers past the Kármán line…’ and also,
…’ the six-person crew.’

You have passengers and crew both used in description of the flight. No one called it a ‘crewed mission’. For me they can call it whatever they darn well please. I live confident I can perceive the differences.

CREW
: a group of people associated together in a common activity or by common traits or interests
***the word is also a slang term for a group of friends who hang out together

Keep breaking boundaries and ceilings ladies, enjoy the ride!

Since everyone has a mother and maybe even sisters or daughters you would think an all women spaceflight would not ruffle feathers. Yet here we are. It is the first all women crew since Tereshkova in 1963 a quick autonomous hop past the Kármán line but still a well earned spotlight on women in space. Bon voyage ladies. :rocket:

Excuse me, Raf … you are using the wrong term. WI Governator Evers has ordered the term, “Mother” replaced by ‘inseminated person.’

Nonsense. This is a good start.

Larry, I’m going to stick with ‘Mother,’ as most people understand it just fine. Slava Ukraini! :ukraine:

What exactly is the “mission”?

I agree, good Q. I would think that this is a high-profile PR stunt for Blue Origin, provoking headlines, and a feel-good message about inclusivity in space, future sales, and keeping investors interested.

But I don’t mean that. What I was asking is do they actually do anything besides look out the window. Using the term mission to me implies some kind of function, testing or some kind of research. This just sounds like a joyride regardless of who is onboard.

Raf

I did a bit of research, and this crew is made up of exceptionally accomplished women, each bringing something unique to the table. Whether in science, media, or the arts, they’ve all worked hard to reach the top of their fields, and it’s inspiring to see them take part in this milestone:

While I gather that this flight isn’t about research, it’s still meaningful. IMO, It celebrates women’s achievements across different industries, and it’s uplifting to see these talented, hard-working women take a step into space. Wishing them a safe and successful flight!

They also have a common thread amongst them - they are all DEI and Dem supporters…

‘They also have a common thread amongst them - they are all DEI and Dem supporters…’

And yet, despite the plausibility, each so incredibly accomplished to boot! Can such amalgamations continue to enthrall?

And a second for Slava Ukraini! :ukraine: When the MTG cretin asked Zelenskyy about his attire I thought Volodymyr was very restrained in holding back to not embarrass Elon with a comparison - even though one is actually disrespectful and one in solid reflection of wartime conflict.

That or he wanted to avoid a Python episode of lost limbs, blood, vomit and insanity when the two man/children would explode on the comparison. Very disciplined indeed, sir.

Wow, there sure are a lot of guys in this thread that hate women.
